On 23 October, Clubbing Heritage returns to Amsterdam for an afternoon of conversations dedicated to the communities, people and structures shaping electronic music culture today. Hosted at Pakhuis de Zwijger, with supporting partner Goethe-Institut Netherlands, the conference brings together artists, collective founders, promoters, venue representatives and cultural organisers from Amsterdam and across Europe. Electronic music culture has always been built by communities before institutions. Independent collectives continue to shape local scenes by creating safer spaces, supporting emerging artists and developing new cultural formats, while often navigating unpaid labour, financial uncertainty, organisational pressure and constant adaptation. The programme opens at 16:00 with Welcome & Drinks, followed by two panel discussions and an audience conversation. 17:00–18:00 — Starting a Community Collective: Strategies & Struggles Moderated by Pink Concrete with Lea Occhi, Gils Weerwind, Separat and Giuseppe Moramarco. The conversation focuses on building identity and community, finding venues and collaborators, funding versus independence, inclusive programming, burnout and lessons learned through grassroots cultural work. 18:30–19:30 — Local Scenes, Global Challenges: The Future of Amsterdam’s Nightlife Moderated by Nick Moody with Sasha Ojeda Mendoza, Shannon Schrader, Maithai de Rijk, Maria Cue, and Arjun Samadhan. The panel looks at accessibility for emerging artists, financial sustainability, local versus international programming, gentrification, regulation, collaboration and the future of Amsterdam’s electronic music identity. 19:30–20:00 — Closing Conversation & Audience Q&A An open discussion inviting attendees to reflect on the future of community-led cultural initiatives and exchange experiences across different local scenes. Clubbing Heritage approaches electronic music not only as nightlife, but as a living social and cultural ecosystem shaped by communities, spaces, institutions and shared practices. The Amsterdam edition aims to strengthen dialogue between independent initiatives and cultural organisations while creating new connections across European scenes.
